Data Quality Controller (13 Positions) (m/f)

2012-02-01

LUXSPACE (L), a subsidiary of OHB (D) is offering space system consultancy, engineering and integration services as well as related R&D to national and international customers.

To support our multi-national team in Betzdorf (Luxembourg), LuxSpace is searching motivated DATA QUALITY CONTROLLERS (13 POSITIONS) in charge to cross-check and control LUCAS data collected by field surveyors in spring-summer 2012.

LUCAS (Land Use / Cover Area frame statistical Survey) is an in-situ data collection on land cover / land use and some more environmental information covering the 27 EU Member States. The survey is organised by Eurostat (Statistical Office of the European Union). A number of contractors, i.e. private companies, have been selected to implement the survey in the EU MS.  LuxSpace has been entrusted with Technical Assistance to Eurostat and the data control.

About 500 field surveyors will collect data all over Europe according to a harmonised methodology and classification system (going down in detail to the crop level) starting this spring until summer. All the data they collect on about 270.000 points sampled over the EU territory, including photos of crops and the landscape, will be sent by the field work contractors to LuxSpace for control purpose before transmission to Eurostat.

The field survey will run within a period from April to September 2012.   The data flow from the field surveyors to LuxSpace will probably not be regular.  The bulk of the data will arrive in our ftp server during the first 2 – 3 months of the 6 months project period, and much less during the last 3 months.

Job Profile:

Our LUCAS data controllers need to be able to recognise crop types and other land cover/use types based on the photos on a computer screen using a specific software tool (LUCAS Data Management Tool).

There will be a dedicated training for LUCAS data controllers on how to carry out the controls and presenting the entire survey set-up, documentation and instructions.

During the first months, LUCAS data controller will need to work full time (40 hours a week) here at our offices in Betzdorf.   After that busy period, the data flow will decrease, so there might be weeks with only 1 or 2 days of work.

Tasks:

  • Quality control of LUCAS field data by means of orthophotos and photographs taken by the surveyor in the field
  • Data control using PC and dedicated software regarding completeness, consistency and correctness
  • Database Management (management of data using the LUCAS Data Management Tool implemented in MS Access)

Ideal candidates should meet the following criteria:

  • Background in Geosciences (e.g. Physical Geography, Environmental sciences, Biology, Agriculture or any other relevant field)
  • Familiar with field work, land cover mapping and particularly plant recognition
  • Good computer skills (MS Access advantageous)
  • English language skills are required

Benefits:

  • Training Workshop
  • Interesting multi-national working environment (GIS, Remote Sensing)
  • Adequate remuneration

Contract:

  • Temporary as Independent (international VAT-ID required)

Contract duration:

  • The duration of the contract will be around 6 months starting from April 2012
