(Nasdaq: ORBC) announced the award of a multi-year framework contract with the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA). The framework contract is funded for up to 500.000 € (US $625.000) for the first year plus options for an additional two years with funding levels yet to be determined.

About 4 hours later, a first contact was established with the satellite through the LUXSPACE ground station at Redu, Belgium.

Luxembourg-based space technology company LUXSPACE Sàrl, a subsidiary of OHB Technology AG (ISIN: DE0005936124), is joining forces with the NGO Sant'Egidio, Rome, and the University of Padova to produce a study identifying ways in which space-based technologies can help to facilitate the logistic distribution of HIV/AIDS medicines in Africa. Financed by the European Space Agency, the study forms part of the “DREAM” (Drug Resource Enhancement against AIDS and Malnutrition) project, which the Community of Sant'Egidio has established.
