(Nasdaq: ORBC) announced the award of a multi-year framework contract with the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA). The framework contract is funded for up to 500.000 € (US $625.000) for the first year plus options for an additional two years with funding levels yet to be determined.

Es besteht darüber hinaus eine Option für zwei weitere Jahre, für die die Vertragssumme noch nicht festgelegt wurde.

About 4 hours later, a first contact was established with the satellite through the LUXSPACE ground station at Redu, Belgium.

Betzdorf, Luxembourg, 12th October 2011 - Today at 7:30 CET, the first Luxembourg built satellite „VesselSat1“ was launched from the Indian launch site Sriharikota on board a PSLV rocket into a near-equatorial orbit. About 2 hours later, at 9:24 CET, first contact was established with the satellite through the ORBCOMM Malaysian ground station.
